日本（和歌山県太地町）とフェロー諸島で汲み取った海水を使用しその海水で、たき染を行った作品です。

This work was created by takizome, boil dyeing, with the seawater in Japan (Taiji town, Wakayama) and Faroe Islands.

世界は海で満ちています。
日本もフェロー諸島も海で囲まれており、それぞれの場所で異なる情景を表します。
それぞれその地を訪れて、見た海はどれも違っているように見えました。
しかし、それはひとつの海に繋がる、すべてが繋がった水なのです。
世界を渡るその水から作成された作品には、共通の意図が浮かび上がらせることができるのではないでしょうか。

The world is full of the sea.
Japan and Faroe Islands are both surrounded by the sea, but there are different scenes in each.
I visited there and each sea seemed different.
However, each sea is connected, so as to the water.
In the artwork made from the water over the world, common intention can be expressed.

そこで今回は、太地町の海を姉妹都市であるフェロー諸島の海に近づけたいという想いを胸にし、
汲み取った海水を使用して海の色である「青」を表現しました。

In this work, I expressed “blue”, color of seawater,
with the thought of getting the sea in Taiji town closer to the sea in Faroe Islands, which are sister cities.

「青」はひとつの色ではなく、多くの色・意味を持っていると思います。
　例えば、和歌山県太地町の「青」
　例えば、フェロー諸島の「青」
　例えば、海水の「青」
　例えば、わたし自身の「青」
どれも違う「青」ですがどれも同じ青です。

“Blue” is not one color, but contains many colors and meanings.
For example, “blue” of Taiji town, “blue” of Faroe Islands, “blue” of the seawater and “blue” of myself.
They are all different “blue”, but they are all the same blue.
I focused on boil dyeing as an approach to express “blue”.

「青」を表現するアプローチとして、たき染に着目しました。
たき染とは、染料と無水芒硝の入った釜の中に生地をつけて染める、布の染色技法です。
芒硝とは、色を定着する成分で塩と似ています。
よって塩を多く含む海水でも同じように染めることが出来るのではないかと考え、制作に至りました。

Boil dyeing is the method to dye by putting cloth into a pot with chemical dye and anhydrous sodium sulfate.
Sodium sulfate fixes color and is similar to salt.

フェロー諸島の彫刻家Janus Kambanのアトリエで滞在制作を行いました。

Therefore, I thought that seawater, which contains salt, can be applied to boil dyeing.
